Some people and families keep a vehicle for years, why? Its simple, some cars evolve into a vessel of emotion. First they are acquired for transportation, for fun or utility. Then for some reason a machine begins the slow process of becoming part of the family. A symbol of the owners passion and a key to many years of memories. The machine holds memories like the child standing up in the driver seat looking over the wheel. Now that child has children. Sometimes its the car that all the kids learned to drive in. Its the car in the trip to the beach from your childhood. Its the truck you washed and waxed with your dad. Or the car you helped your grandpa fix up. You might have sat in the driver seat in the garage dreaming about when you can drive it by yourself. The car your parents took you to grandmas house or the truck you took your first child home from the hospital in. Its hard to put a dollar value on a machine that holds those memories. I can't tell you how many times I heard " I wish I would have held on to my ____" ...There are very few people who can tell you what car today will be collectable in 30 years. What I can say is if you can sit in your car and it can take you somewhere without the wheels turning, then you should keep it.

I have been working on cars for over 30 years. Beginning at an Exxon gas station at 17 then to a few other shops learning all the way. I would buy repair manuals to almost every car I worked on (pre internet) and I got a bunch of ASE certifications. In 2003 I had a great job at a great dealership and got the crazy idea to rent a 3 car garage and go on my own. I found out quick that no one likes to, or knows how to work on limousines. With limos and custom cars you can't just change a part, you need to understand to problem before you can fix it. I never rode the gravy train in my earlier jobs. Other more senior "techs" got the easy jobs, this was so good for me looking back. I learned so much and still love problem solving.
